Plesk Web Pro vs Web Host — which edition pays off, and when

Reseller-oriented breakdown of Plesk's editions — domain limits, reseller management, included extensions, and the upgrade-path math.

Plesk sells three editions, and the marketing pages obscure the only question that matters for an operator: at what point does Web Host stop being a luxury and start being cheaper than Web Pro plus add-ons? The answer is roughly 32 domains, but the inputs that move that number are the WP Toolkit Deluxe upgrade, whether you need reseller management, and how seriously you take SitePro and SEO Toolkit.

This is a breakdown for resellers, not end-user sysadmins. If you are running one site on a personal VPS, Web Admin is fine and the rest of this article does not apply to you.

The three editions in one table

Prices below are indicative monthly Plesk SRP for a VPS licence and round to the nearest dollar. Volume and partner pricing — including ours at current pricing — runs noticeably lower.

A handful of caveats:

  • The 30-domain cap on Web Pro counts subscriptions, not aliases. An add-on domain attached to a subscription does count.
  • "Customer accounts" is the limited end-user login (manages their own sites). "Reseller accounts" is the white-label sub-admin (manages their own customers). The latter only exists on Web Host.
  • Dedicated server licences exist for each edition at higher price points and remove the domain cap on Web Pro too. Most resellers run VPS licences; this article assumes that.

Where the editions actually differ

Web Admin is a single-operator panel. No customer logins, no reseller logins, 10 domains. It is the right fit for a developer running client sites under their own admin login, or for an in-house IT team hosting internal apps. Choose it only if you genuinely never expose Plesk to a customer.

Web Pro adds customer accounts, raises the cap to 30 domains, and bundles the Developer Pack (Git deploy, Node.js, Ruby, Docker management). It is the "freelance agency" tier — you host customers, but you do not let them resell to their own customers. The 30-domain cap is the gating factor.

Web Host removes the domain cap, adds reseller accounts, and bundles SitePro, the full SEO Toolkit, and Plesk Email Security. It is the "we sell hosting" tier. The reseller management alone is worth the upgrade if you have a partner channel — building white-label sub-accounts on Web Pro is not supported.

The break-even math

Take the indicative VPS prices: Web Pro at ~$20, Web Host at ~$35. The gap is $15/month. The question is which add-ons you would otherwise buy on top of Web Pro.

The clean break-even is on domain count. Plesk charges roughly $0.50/month per domain over the cap on Web Pro (priced per additional domain in blocks). At the 30-domain edge:

  • 30 domains: Web Pro $20, Web Host $35 — Web Pro wins by $15.
  • 50 domains: Web Pro $20 + 20 × $0.50 = $30, Web Host $35 — Web Pro still wins by $5.
  • 60 domains: Web Pro $20 + 30 × $0.50 = $35, Web Host $35 — break-even.
  • 80 domains: Web Pro $20 + 50 × $0.50 = $45, Web Host $35 — Web Host wins by $10.

So on raw domain math, the crossover is around 60 domains. But two factors shift this earlier:

  1. SEO Toolkit. Bought separately, it is roughly $4-7/month per domain depending on tier. Even bundling it for 5-10 customer-facing domains closes the gap fast. If your customers want SEO reports, the bundled SEO Toolkit alone makes Web Host pay at ~35 domains.
  2. Plesk Email Security. Roughly $1.50/month per mailbox as an add-on. With 30 mailboxes across customers, that is another $45/month you save with Web Host.

A realistic working example: a reseller with 40 active domains, 80 mailboxes, and 8 customers using SEO Toolkit. Web Pro: $20 + 10 × $0.50 + 80 × $1.50 + 8 × $5 = $190/month. Web Host: $35/month. Web Host wins by a wide margin.

The break-even drops to roughly 32 domains the moment your customers expect email security and any SEO reporting. Below that, Web Pro is fine.

WP Toolkit Deluxe — a separate decision

Both Web Pro and Web Host ship WP Toolkit SE. The Deluxe upgrade adds the WAF integration, smart updates with visual regression checks, and the security checker beyond the basic hardening set. It is a per-server add-on (not per-domain) at roughly $9-15/month depending on licence type.

For a WordPress-heavy fleet, Deluxe pays for itself the first time the smart-update visual diff stops a broken plugin update from going live. For a fleet that is mostly bespoke PHP or Laravel, skip it.

Reseller management is binary

If you have, or plan to have, partners reselling hosting under their own brand, Web Host is the only option. There is no "Web Pro plus reseller add-on" — the reseller object does not exist in Web Pro's data model. The work-around of giving partners admin logins to separate Web Pro servers gets expensive quickly and gives them more access than they should have.

Our take

Web Pro is the right starting tier for a solo operator or small agency under 30 domains, with no customer reseller channel and customers who are not asking for SEO and email security extras. The moment any one of those constraints breaks — you cross 35-40 domains, you sign your first reseller partner, or your customers start asking for SEO reports — Web Host is the cheaper answer, and the upgrade is a key swap, not a reinstall.

Our current Plesk licence pricing shows the partner discount applied to both editions; check the pricing page for volume tiers if you are running multiple servers.
